Bridgerton and Abbey Street Townhouse

The hit Netflix drama Bridgerton, set in a fantasy of Regency-era London in 1813, was actually largely filmed in Bath. With its handsome Georgian architecture, and loads of experience as a film and TV set, Bath is the best place in the UK to shoot elegant historic town scenes. Many of the outdoor and interior scenes were filmed in this historic city, including Abbey Street Townhouse. The lavish series had filming locations scattered around England, but if you want to see as many as possible close together, and live the Bridgerton atmosphere for yourself, the many Bridgerton filming locations in Bath make it the best destination you could choose.

Abbey Street Townhouse location

Abbey Street is a few steps from Abbey Green, as you open the famous green door of Abbey Street Townhouse you see the pretty square with cobbled streets, charming boutiques and a magnificent London Plane Tree at its centre. The village feel, pedestrianised streets and quintessential Georgian Architecture make it a dream filming location for Bridgerton, featuring often in Series one and two. It is here that the fictional dress shop, Modiste, is located, owned by renowned seamstress Madame Genevieve Delacroix, the shop is a hotbed of style and gossip and the setting to several key scenes in the show.

The famous green door of Abbey Street Townhouse is next door to La Modiste, which is The Abbey Deli when it is not a filming location. This imposing doorway sits under a triangular pediment, and is the entrance to the lodging of Anthony Bridgerton’s opera singer lover Siena. Many scenes are filmed here, including one where he turns up banging on the door the night before a duel, followed by a passionate encounter in the Abbey Street Townhouse hallway.

Other scenes are filmed in Abbey Green Square, which is dressed to look like Covent Garden, London in the Georgian era beautifully dressed with market stalls. Best friends Eloise and Penelope enjoy one of their gossip sessions as they shop there.
